Creative Problem Solving Society - Odyssey of the Mind
RPO Heritage Mtn, Port Moody, BC
Odyssey of the Mind is a school-based, international program that promotes creative problem solving for students from kindergarten through college. Under the guidance of a coach, teams of five to seven students learn creative thinking and problem solving skills while finding innovative solutions to a variety of technical and performance problems.
What do kids do in Odyssey? Team members solve a "Long Term" problem, which they create, produce, practice and then present at competition in the spring. The problem might be to design a vehicle, produce a play or build a balsa wood structure - problems are different each year. In addition to this long term problem, the team is also presented at the competition with a "Spontaneous" problem, which they must solve or respond to in a short period of time.
We are currently recruiting volunteer judges for our 2016 tournaments. For detailed information on what is involved in judging, go to http://www.odysseybc.ca/images/downloads/JudgesReg-Memo2016.pdf. Only requirements are that volunteer judges are at least 19 years of age, currently not attending High School, enjoy working with students of all ages and are able to communicate in English. We offer a training day on Saturday, February 13, 2016, 9 am -3 pm, at Montgomery Middle School in Coquitlam. The tournaments include the Qualifying Tournament: Sat. February 27, and the Provincial Tournament: Sat. April 16. If you would like to volunteer as a judge, you must commit to attend the training session and at least one tournament, but preferably both tournaments for consistency. For registration information please visit our website or contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Silke, at email@example.com. Don't hesitate to ask any question you may have! We hope to hear from you, it promises to be lots of fun!
How can I help?
to learn how your can help Creative Problem Solving Society - Odyssey of the Mind.
We are constantly looking for motivated volunteers that are interested in joining our growing group of hard-working but fun people to help us plan and organize our events, and to help us promote our flagship program, Odyssey of the Mind. It's up to you how much time you have to give. A few hours here or there could be a great help (i.e. help out with registration during our events, administrative projects, Public Relations), a few hours every month or maybe even more would be fantastic (i.e. join the board and be actively involved in decision making, help us plan the annual Fun Day or our tournaments). Interested in joining our Odyssey? Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
